Charming early 19th century oil painting on canvas depicting a hay barge being pulled down a canal and having as passengers a pair of shy young women and a trio of young children in addition to the boatmen. No visible signature. Framed in period gilt wood frame. Measures 17in x 15in framed and 12.25in x 10.25in image only. Condition: Overall craquelure, outline of stretcher is visible from front side in raking light. Tiny specks of paint loss at bottom rightmost corner right up against the edge of frame.
