Caspar Mine (French/Austrian, born 1905 - ?) Oil painting on masonite panel, finely rendered portrait of Jewish scholar or rabbi. Circa 1950’s. Signed top right. Framed in gilt wood frame. Measures 17in x 14in framed and 11.5in x 8.5in image only. Condition: Excellent vintage condition.
Biographical information from the back of the painting: Caspar Mine was born in Montpellier, France in 1905. he soon moved to Vienna with his parents where he attended the Industrial School of Arts. afterwards he studied with Prof. Hoffman. he was mostly interested in the “Rococo-Century”. Out of that time he took the rich variety of his figure paintings. Often he spent many hours in the state rooms of the Castle "Schonbrunn" where he was inspired to new subjects and motifs. He was very successful at exhibitions in the "Sezession", "Burggarten" and "Glaspalast" in Vienna. He was also reportedly a student of Isidor Kaufmann (Austrian, 1853-1921) another realist painter dedicated to depicting themes of Jewish life.
