Pair of early 19th century charcoal drawings on paper depicting women in Empire style clothing. Handwritten notations in the lower margin that I can only partially decipher but looks like the surnames Berensbach and Kellerman as well as the place name of Osterode am Harz located in Niedersachsen. Old gallery labels verso for McCaughen and Burr Gallery, St. Louis, MO. Nicely framed in gilt wood frames, matted under glass. Measures 27in x 23in framed and 14in x 10in image only. Condition: Water stains to both pieces at bottom of image, this must have occured in the distant past prior to framing. If you switch to a oval mat you may be able to conceal much of this. One frame has some minor nicks and scratches to finish.
