Awesome 1920’s illustration painting in gouache paint on artist’s board. Depicts a group of three children coming downstairs because they’re scared of something, their father looks up at them from reading the paper with consternation on his face. Signed lower left “Netta M. Filer” Measures 14in x 12in overall and about 10.5in x 9.25in image area only. Condition: light wear at far edges, image is in excellent condition. Netta M. Filer lived in Kalamazoo, Michigan and is listed as an artist in the 1899 Kalamazoo City Directory, she studied at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1901-1902 and applied for a series of fine art copyrights in 1908-1909. The August 1902 edition of Duluth Evening mentions Filer as having designed the cover for The Pilgrim magazine.
