CLARA HOFFMAN (American, 1862-1897) oil painting on canvas depicting a lovely young woman coming back from a social event and removing her gloves. Signed and dated lower left “Clara Hoffman - April - 1875”. Framed in a period frame. Measures 24.5in height x 17in width framed and 17.5in height x 9.5in width. Condition: Excellent vintage condition with no damage or restoration to the canvas. Frame has overall minor nicks and rubs. Hoffman attended the Cincinnati Art Academy beginning in 1885 and studied under renowned figure painter Frank Duveneck. During her time at CAA Clara met and became close friends with Emma Mendenhall and the two later studied under William Merritt Chase at the Shinnecock Hills Summer School or Art in New York. Hoffman exhibited at the Tennessee Centennial Exposition in 1897 and later at the Cincinnati Women's Art Club at Closson's Gallery.
