Wonderful little depression era watercolor painting by Karl Gasslander (American, 1905-1997) titled “Folk Dancer” and circa 1930’s. No visible signature (may be below the mat line). Hand written note on back identifies the artist, and title. Framed in painted oak wood frame, matted under glass. Measures 20in x 17in overall and 7.25in x 4.75in image only. Condition: Painting in excellent condition, light wear to edges of frame. Bio: Karl Gasslander, was an accomplished painter, writer, and teacher. Born in Rockford, Illinois, Gasslander was the art critic for the Evanston Daily News, and taught at the Evanston Collegiate Institute. He attended the Art Students League in New York, and in Illinois the Art Institute of Chicago as well as the Northwestern University School of Art. He was a member of the Chicago Society of Artists, the Chicago Society of Printmakers, and was a WPA artist under Louis Cheskin.
