Portrait of Dr. Jacob D. Bosler (1802-1868) attributed to Charles Soule, Sr. (Ohio, 1809-1869). Oil on canvas framed in wood frame. Measures 31in x 26in framed and 26.5in x 21.5in sight. Notes on verso of canvas identify the sitter and artist. Condition: Old repair to tear at bottom, some smearing of background to right of image, professionally relined so the foundation of this antique painting is structurally sound. From "History of Dayton, Ohio" 1889: Dr. Jacob Bosler, after a practice of twenty-five years as a regular physician, became a convert to homeopathy in 1849, (page 536) and followed that system of practice the rest of his life.
