Gorgeous antique majolica two-handle (one handle repaired) urn decorated with a central medallion depicting “Cupid Riding a Wild Panther” after the 1850 sculpture by Ernst Friedrich Rietsel (German, 1804-1861). Beautiful detailed pierced bronze base. Bronze figural dragons top mount. Marked underneath with the Choisy-le-Roi faience factory of Choisy-le-Roi, France black ink stamped mark with "HB" which stands for Hippolyte Boulenger a director at the pottery. The pottery produced majolica from 1860 until 1910 and was some of the most delicate produced in France. Measures 15in height x 15in width x 10in depth. Condition: Right handle has been cracked and repaired which is only noticeable under scrutiny. Otherwise excellent vintage condition.
