Fred Berger (American/Chicago, 1923 - 2006) Pencil drawing on paper, 1968, depicts 5 portraits of an old man, signed and dated lower left. Framed in gilt wood frame, matted under glass. Measures 31in x 26in framed and 23in x 18.5in image only. Condition: Drawing in excellent condition, frame has many chips and losses that have been touched up.Berger was a life-long Chicago area artist and a central figure in the Monster Roster art movement described by the Smart Museum as “united by a shared interest in the figure during a period that is often seen as dominated by abstraction, the group created deeply psychological works that drew on classical mythology and ancient art.”. His work is included in the Art Institute of Chicago, Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago and the Smithsonian collection among others.
